Windshield Hot Plate Speed Loss?

Windshield Hot Plate Speed Loss?

Postby Edward Rognerud » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:25 am

Does anyone have any idea how much speed can be gained by removing the hot plate on a full deiced PA39? It looks like it would be quite aerodynamicaly disruptive. I am trying to decide if it is worth removing during the upcoming warm months.

Sorry to hijack, but can you tell me anything about you hot plate. I have a pa-30c with deice wiggins conversion. I have wiring and switch for hot plate but have no plate. I am trying to get any info/part number to try to find one. Thanks

Mike,

Watch eBay! They come up from time to time. All you need is the hot plate, as someone apparently installed the kit before you got the plane.

Mike,

I just dug through all of my aircraft records. I could not find any paperwork on the hot plate other than the logbook entry at time of install, which was 1974. It was part of the Wiggins kit. I will not have a chance to get out to the hangar for at least a week. I will try to take a couple of close up photos of the hot plate for your reference, and see if I can see any numbers on it.

According to the parts manual there was an optional kit for the PA-30's for heated windshield plate -- p/n 756-924. The plate assembly number is 31638-00. The actual plate without the frame, etc. is 31997-00. Airports of Lock Haven advertises that they fix the hot plates. They might know where to get one.
