PA-30 Parts

Postby Twin Spinner » Tue May 03, 2011 8:23 am

I have purchased a complete salvage '64 PA-30 Ser# 30-595. I will be keeping many components for my 69 C model but have many items available. Some of the Items I have for sale now are : propeller, complete IO-320 B1A, wings, stabilator, rudder, fuselage shell, complete leather interior, engine mounts, cowl panels, nose bowls. spinners, I may be talked out of the flap transmission as I have a spare. Of course there are many other parts. Just let me know what you need. It was sad to see this old bird in pieces. It is not too late to save her if you are so inclined but you will need an engine and propeller, wing and fuselage repairs and all avionics. Feel free to contact me at a757guy@yahoo.com.

Ron,

I noticed this is your first post here. As 39 owner, if you the selectors aren't available, other folks have purchased the new Aussie made STC'd selectors and like them or had their existing selectors overhauled at Webco. The STC wasn't available and i had mine overhauled and they work beautifully but having seen the inside of the selectors and having had them fail more than once in the 42 years of 39-10, I would have bought the Aussie selectors.

I have a pair of the new fuel selectors. They were designed and are manufactured by Parker Hannifin here in the US with Pat Barry leading the charge on behalf of Comanche owners.

The new selectors are entirely made of machined stainless steel, really well built units. The originals were made of mild steel with cadmium plating. Eventually the plating wears off and corrosion (rust) sets in, which can cause all kinds of problems from internal leaks to jamming valves. The overhaul process works great (re-plates the selectors) but you will eventually need to do it again as the new plating will wear just like the original plating did. I expect the stainless units will last as long as the airframe does.

I don't know the exact cost of the new units, but I believe them to be above 3 AMUs each. That's considerably more than the cost of overhauling the old units, but you have to balance that against a "final fix" with the stainless units versus needing continuous vigilance for the plating wearing and corrosion setting in again.

Jay,

I may be in the market for a Flap transmission, for my 65 PA-30, have you decided yet on weather or not you are going to part with it? Any Idea on cost?

Thanks,
