PA30/39 Turbo

PA30/39 Turbo

Postby BusDriver » Sat Jul 30, 2011 4:13 pm

I live in an area with a high MSA. (13,000ft), and I am therefore considering buying a PA30/39 Turbo. I would be very interested to hear from Turbo owners as to how they rate their turbo TC’s (warts and all!), and also answers to the following questions:

1) Given that the engines are ‘turbo normalised’, when the turbo is not being used do the engines behave exactly as a non turbo engine does - CHT’s, EGT’s, FF etc?

2) Ignoring wind effects what is the optimum altitude for a turbo TC, and what MP, TAS, FF and CHT’s are owners achieving?

3) Does anyone use LOP in a turbo TC, if so what MP TAS and FF are owners getting? Is there any difficulty keeping CHT’s within limits LOP?

4) I’ve heard that the turbo TC’s are a maintenance nightmare – I would be interested to hear owners experiences, both cost and ease of maintenance.

5) Is there any advice that you can give me regarding the pre purchase test flight and inspection specifically for a turbo TC?

Thanks in advance!

I believe Tom Smith has hisTurbo Twin Comanche for sale. Low engine times since overhaul and the airplane has his long range tanks installed. I believe he flew it Seattle to Nashville non stop!

He could give you answers to some of your questions.

Phone number is 425 485 6226

"BusDriver" lives in Andorra. Unlikely to buy a US TC.

My assumption was incorrect. Sorry.

Glad to help you anyway I can in the US. Assume you have checked TAP and Controller listings.

Did you get an answer to your STOL question?

No problem.

Yes, I'm now an expert on STOL!

Warren Whisenhunt in TN is selling his turbo TC. Charlie Tripp says it is a good well-equipped TC. Warren's phone is 731 336 3353. You can access his information at the ICS Pathfinder. I do not have a current email address.
