Best Inner Tube?

Best Inner Tube?

Postby John Wedge » Tue Jun 14, 2011 2:48 am

Have always used Goodyear Flt Custom tires and tubes and am now getting ready to make the 180 legal by changing from the 6 ply back to the 4 ply tires. In past discussions here some members have recommended the Michelin tubes as they hold air better. Has anyone had any experience / knowledge of the "Leakguard" tubes from Desser tire company?
Thanks.

I have used the Leakguard tubes for a couple of years and now will use nothing else. They really do not leak down.

I have had good luck with Michelin tubes holding air. I seldom have to add air between annuals.
I had not heard of Leakguard, From the second post on this subject it sounds like they do the job too.

How do the prices compare?

Thanks for replies. Several people on the Piper Forum went to Leakguard, one stated he has added air only 2 times since last Oct install. Have not compared the prices but am going with the Leakguard.

Desser lists the 6.00-6 Leakguard at $42.95. Aircraft Spruce has the Michlen at $59.50.

I'm looking at the leakguard with the 2" bent valve (Valve: TR-87): will there be any fit issues with the easier to access valve? I can't think of any issues but wondering if some has had experiences that show otherwise.

I have always used Michelin Air stop tubes. Rarely need to put air in them. I also have a 2 seat RV9 for when i don't want to fire up the Comanche to fly around the patch. The tires on my RV have wore out but the air inside stays put due to the Michelin Air Stop tubes. The Michelin tubes are a little more but absolutely worth it.
