Fuel strainer clamp

Looking for part # 22306-000 fuel strainer clamp or the 2 1/2 in. drilled 10-24 Fillister head screw that goes to it. No luck with Webco. Mine stripped. Thanks, Rick

Dear Rick,

Try using a long 10-32 screw and a matching nut. Put safety wire around the whole thing when you get it tight and there are no leaks. Course thread 10-24 will screw in a little faster (less turns) if you can find it. Spruce has them at 1 1/2 inches long. You might need longer, depends on how able you are to compress the ring and start the screw into the nut.

I too need a screw, and am thinking of buying the 100 piece minimum and selling the other 99. Between annuals, the priority goes by the wayside, but if you tell me the thread length, perhaps I will pursue it again. I need the length of the original screw threads to order the right one the first time. It is course 10-24 thread, drilled head for safety wire. The think the base number is MS35265-XX. Let me know the thread length and you already said total length, then I can confirm the part number.

There's a place in Miami that specializes in aviation hardware. If you want 2 1/2 inches long (probably about the right length to make it easy to get the nut started) they are pretty good at getting the right hardware for you. They are called Avico. Call them at 305-888-6486 or 800-741-6486. I'm not sure if the 800 number works outside of Fla. Their prices are reasonable and they might not have a 100 piece minimum.

Please, please, please don't go to your corner hardware store to purchase hardware to put on your airplane!!!!! Even if some of it looks the same, believe me it is not the same. Aviation hardware is usually made from better controlled metal, better plating (usually cadmium plating vs. hardware store tin plating), controlled heat treating, and much better quality control. Most importantly of all, aviation hardware is a known quality.

Stick with AN, MS, Mil spec hardware. Thanks.

We have the same issue, As a stop gap method I used a second nut behind the one that is a bit striped, and then saftey wired both so movement would not be possible. If anyone does find some new screws i would be in. How about marine grade Staniless steel? Would that be a alternative?

I too am looking for p/n 22306-00. I'm in the middle of an annual and mechanic says mine needs repaired. The clamp itself is fine but the "nut" where the clamp curles around it is stripped. I'm also looking for the fuel strainer cover as mines pretty pitted. Please let me know if you find a source.

I am still working the screw issue, not a popular part number with the vendors. When I find the screw I will post it here. If you need the clamp/nut fast, your best be is to find a good used one. The corroded bowl issue is easy, Webco sell a FAA-PMA part for a reasonable price last time I checked.

I bought a box. Gave most to my mechanic but kept a few. If anybody needs one, let me know. You have to drill the head yourself for safety wire but works great. AVIATION quality..

got so tired of my 250 leaking fuel and not getting the gasketg properly snugged I replaced the whole thing with a gascolator from Steve's Aircraft. STCs for PA-24...no interest in the company, but it is a good product http://www.stevesaircraft.com/

Okay, I have now located and possess the AN500A10 screws identical to the ones in Piper fuel strainer clamp 22306-00. It is low carbon steel minimum tensile strength 55,000 PSI, Cad II finish drilled Phillister head 10-24 thread class 2A & 2½“ long.

This was a hard to find piece of aviation hardware even with searching multitude aviation sources, so you can take advantage of my legwork. This is not a hardware store screw and I had to buy a minimum of 25 to get the 1 I want.

This screw is used on the fuel strainer clamp for PA24-180/250/260 S/N 24-2299 and up.
