I have been having a few problems with fuel boost pumps this winter, so may I ask your indulgence if things are repeated as I try to get my mind around the problem.
If one has a u/s fuel pump the options are:
1. Have it overhauled by Weldon (That is what the service manual says Para 9-28, page 9-24 "Overhaul of the fuel pump is not recommended because of the special tools required. If overhaul is necessary, the pump should be returned to Weldon Tool Company) or
2. Have it overhauled by one of the other overhaulers ( Rapco, not apparently recommended - Are there any other overhaulers?)
3. Buy an overhauled unit from people like Quality Aircraft Accesories or KRN Aviation Services ( http://www.controller.com/list/PartsSea ... tNum=C8100 ) but that is confusing as there are listed a number of C8100's. Which one is required for a PA39?
4. Buy the new unit from Weldon.
5. Go the The Aviation Innovations way. (I have seen all the arguements but there are problems with EASA with cutting metal. It would be traeted by them as a Major Mod and require all the paperwork that entails)
Now I come to my confusion about part numbers. The Piper Parts Catalog has part number 763 819 as the Fuel Pump Repalcement Kit Left and Right. Does this mean that the same pump is used for Left and Right or are there specific pumps for the left side and the right side. It also has:
753 651 MOTOR - Fuel pump (8800-12), Use with Fuel Pump 24058-00 and 24058-01.
753 715 MOTOR - Fuel pump (8800-12B), Used with Fuel Pump 24058-02, 24058-03, 24058-04, 25058-06, Used with Fuel Pump 24058-06 and 24058-07
761 677 MOTOR - Fuel pump (8850-5A) Used with Fuel Pump C8100G only
However it goes on to say that 753 651 and 753 715 are Not available . Order Fuel Pump replacement kit 763 819.
Is Fuel Pump replacement kit 763 819 available anywhere?
Then we come to the Weldon Pump C8100-J The PMA Data sheet says this is a replacement for Piper Part number 763-518. What is Piper Part Number 763-518.
Finally I would like to clear up another piece of confused information. Are these various parts (Piper Pump Replacement Kit 763 819 and Piper Part 763-518 and the Weldon C8100-J) the complete unit ie Pump and Electric Motor or just the pump to which an electric motor (what electric motor) must be added.
See my confusion??!!
Thanks,
Terry
