337 for Navajo Yokes?

Great!
Just scooped up a pair from the salvage yard. They came off a well cared for cheyenne 11. Both yokes also came with all the switches, including trim switches, PTT, Autopilot disconnect, CWS (which I can't use but will get avionics tech to hook up to transponder ident ) and beautiful Piper caps.

The only draw back is they are white, but because they are in almost in pristine condition, I won't recoat them in black.

Best part is I stole them for 175 a piece

Does anyone know the easiest way to take out the spring pin?
I took off the piper decal and tried ,without to much force to move it back out, but it (as it is designed to do) it seems to be very snug.

Do you have to cut it and take it out in two steps or is it safe to pry it out using needle nose grips?

You can use a needle nose pliers or dike cutters to get it out. To put it back in, it is tapped in with a hammer and drift pin.

Place a 2 x 4 under the control column that supports it from the floor.

If you are having trouble finding yokes, you could look in to Aerostar yokes as well. They can easily be machined to fit the control column. A. H. Powers ICS 2978

Do you happen to know where I can get a copy of Piper drawing No. 22988 mentioned on the 337 you attached? A new FAA guy in Memphis wants to see that drawing before he approves a 337 for the installation of Navajo yokes.

Have you asked Piper? The will give out some drawings.

My other thought is to check and see if the part number for the Navajo yokes are the same for then Comanche starting in 1969. I am betting that they are the same part number which should obviate the need of a drawing.

Different part number. Joe yokes are bigger than Comanche yokes, same shaft diameter though.

Charlie, other than asking Piper, I really don't know who would have them. I don't. Tell the guy there are probably 100 plus Comanche flying around with this mod, and most probably used this, another 337 as approved data.

It surprises me that Piper would make two different yokes with the same shaft diameter, but I take your word for it. It has been so long since I have flown I Joe that I don't have a grip on how big those yokes are. I really would love to fly a Joe again. I liked those planes a lot.

BTW – I just got an email from Piper. Drawing 22988 is available for purchase but you must get it through a Piper dealer. I called the southeast dealer and the person I needed to talk to had left for the day; will call tomorrow. If the drawing is not digital, I will scan it and post it here to make the previously posted 337complete for others to use. I’ll just consider it a donation to the ICS library.

Kristin, talk to Matt. He is the man when it comes to upgrading yokes. I bought a pair from him a couple of years ago, he included a very detail set of removal/installation instructions. He also had them powder coated, then stripped and re-powder coated because they didn't meet his specs the first time.

Thanks Jay, but I have a '69 Twinkie so she came with the rams horn. I was just trying to contribute to the conversation, and then I was having a trip down memory lane and getting nostalgic to fly a Joe again.
