Master Solenoid

Hello, I have a 66 PA-30B. Is the relay that is located just forward of the battery in the nose of the aircraft the master solenoid? It has a marking that says current relay on the part.

John,

I'm not a mechanic but I've learned to use the Parts Manual that's on this website under the Technical tab http://www.comancheflyer.com/NS/index_serv_manuals.php for parts identification on my 39. The nice thing is you can increases the size to make some of the very small numbers readable. I know 30Bs are different than 39s so I won't try to answer your question.

The parts manual has really helped me in terms of being able to talk to mechanics over the phone or via email. It also helps to make sure you get the right part.

There's a bit of a learning curve but not too bad. I keep the size at 85% until I get to the page I need and then expand as needed. Hope this helps.

Thanks Pat,

I went to the parts catalog and saw piper part # 455 151. I think this is the part, although it is called a switch-magnetic.

I just replaced my master solenoid and it fixed my problem! The part was very expensive at $450.00 Webco did not have one in stock, so I purchased from a place in Des Moines Iowa. I think the Webco price list needs to be updated because in this case their listed price is half of what the part actually costs.

Pat, I actually have a Pa-30B. But, a 260 would be nice too!

John, Oops, sorry about that - had recently tried to help a 260 owner as well.

You probably already know that the stock 30B was the fastest of the Twin's - even tho the paperwork said 39s were faster, Mom's test flights consistently found 30Bs with the thinner stab to be 1-4 kts faster depending upon how well they were built or rigged.

Hope you have gotten to fly recently - flew yesterday with FABulous visibility. Feel so fortunate to start the new year with such a great plane.
