Hi

I agree with the Whelen LED recommendation. When I put ours in, I took the rotating beacon part # and went to the Aircraft Spruce online catalogue and ordered the appropriate replacement. I assume yours is on the tail vs the fusilage so it may be a different part #.

Good luck, Don

Harald, repeating my post from above. Let me know if you need photos.

Heads up on your rotating beacon. I don't know what's on a 66, but we just replaced the 1970 Whelen rotating beacon on my PA39 and the Piper housing screw holes align well with the new Whelen 1-0790520-55 red/white LED.

BUT
they made the 'skirt' of the new LED light so short it sits almost a half inch below the existing Piper housing rim. Haven't figured out what to do about this as it just got done but will have to do something as this will be a rain catcher.

Thought you'd want to know.

Works great and highly visible and that is why I got it - high level of traffic under Class B in DFW area.

Hi Harald,

You might to talk to Kristin Winter. Her PA30 is a '69 I think and she has the Whelen LED on the tail. She may be able to give you a part number that works out of the box.

Good luck, Don
