I received the "Blue Label" Mag yesterday and installed it on the A/C. Did the static timing with a buzz box. Twenty-five (25) degrees BTDC is what is on the engine placard. I noticed when I pulled the mag that the previous individual used the wrong gasket. Use of the wrong gasket puts undue pressure on the "ears of the mag housing. Gaskets are cheap. I was very careful to prevent the rubber drive insulators from dropping off into the engine. Before I sent the core back I looked at the breakers. It appears that somebody before me did a lousy cold solder joint where the capacitor attaches. When the end of that wire would make momentary contact with the case the mag would crap, or maybe the spark at the contacts would become so erratic the signal would not make it to the plugs. I saw a little oil film in the nylon gear section, so I am glad I did not rebuild the mag, and just got a factory rebuild. Installed a new ignition harness too. Looks great, runs great, and I no longer have any noise in my headset. I had an A&P check all of my work and next I am going to do my annual. Learning more and more about my Comanche all of the time.......Total cost for the mag R&R was $910.00.........
