1962 250 Original Paint schemes

Postby Wayne Haristy » Thu Nov 26, 2009 3:19 pm

I'm about to repaint my 1962 250 and am interested in using an original Piper paint scheme. I have attempted to find an original 1962 sales brochure for the 250 but haven't had any luck so far. If any of the members have one, it would be greatly appreciated if I could get a copy from you.

Thanks,
Wayne

Comanche Paint

Postby David Pyle » Thu Nov 26, 2009 5:29 pm

Wayne,

I have a large collection of single engine Comanche photos. Very likely a 1962 among them. In addition I have some favorite factory paint schemes that I recommend. Where/who wlll do your paint work? Need your e-mail.

'62 Paint schemes - How about '60 180's

Postby Don Nelson » Thu Nov 26, 2009 6:36 pm

Hello David,
We have an inquiry from a former Comanche owner looking for a photo.
Maybe you have it? Or know our source of original paint schemes?

As a former co-owner, in the early 70s, of N7063P, Serial number 24-2215, I have been seeking high and low to determine the original paint scheme of this aircraft. I admit to be up in years and memory only recalls that in was red and white. I understand that the ICS maintains (ed) an album of colors/paint schemes. My purpose is that I would like to have a true scale model made of this plane. I logged about 400 hours in 7063P and loved every one of them. I am also seeking a color photo. So far I have been unsuccessful. The complete FAA records have been reviewed and the aircraft has not been registered in 15 years. Can you help?
William Z. McLear III, MD

Comanche Paint

Don.

That's is a tall order. Gone 15 years is before my Comanche photo library started. I may have the old ICS photo CD somewhere. Never found it very useful. White with red and black trim was a common color scheme. I'll look for a reasonable facsimile. Does Dr. McLear have e-mail?

Don;

If you put the tail number into Google search you will find that 180 Comanche is a 1960 model living in Ohio.

Comanche N7063P

"Sale Pending" Warren Ohio and no history prior to that suggests that the airplane may have been sold for salvage and therefore never reregistered. No name or date listed. Does Dr. McLear recall where it went after he sold it?

OTOH I wish I had known two days ago.

Wayne, if it's any help here's my '62 250 still with its original factor lacquer paint. Also has an unmarked original 'Palm Beach' interior.

Kind regards,
Barry

Barry.

That is a really nice picture. Where is it? I think the 180's of those model years were a little different. My first Comanche was a 1962 180, N8089P. It has had a most interesting history since I owned it and is now based in upper NY state. Made a pass at getting it back a year ago.
