Fuel Smell in Cockpit

Strong smell of fuel in the cabin - didn't have it when I bought the plane (1962 PA24-250) a little over two months ago. Any ideas as to why? It really smells and nauseates me. I've tried not filling the tanks all the way but that didn't do the trick.
