Thanks everyone for the replies. I just got back from 1500nm trip into severe head winds (40knots on the ground) so I ran things pretty hard and for once I never had to worry about cylinder temps. And yes it was that piece of metal that ramped up the front of the cylinder, not the air scoop for the airbox. Pretty consistent now running at 75%, 2500MSL, 24c oat #1 361, #2 360, #3 379, #4 390, #5 379, #6 398. I found a few gaps in the felt around the engine mounts on the left side, so plugging them up will be my next job but I'm just happy I can keep the temps under 400 now.

Thanks

Todd, I have a 72 260C and this has always been a minor issue with me, but not to the extent that I felt I should modify the baffeling in that area. I too run 35-40 deg hotter on #1, but even on hot days in Texas and at lower altitudes, I seldom see anything over 390 deg on #1. Sounds to me more like a general baffeling issue, and you might want to verify that you are getting a good seal across the entire top of the engine. Pressure from inlet air in that area is IMHO your friend.

How much height did you cut off of the metal fin which turns up the front of #1 cylinder? I may consider modifying mine similarily if it is legal, just so that all cyl temps are in the same range.

I just removed the same piece of metal that is fitted in front of cyl. 1. CHT dropped from 400-405F to 352F and now is the coolest while #6 is the hotest at 397F. Any idea how this can be reduced?
