New Advisory Circular

Postby MV Case Jr » Sat Jul 04, 2009 9:30 pm

Zach ,
I saw something on the EAA website about a new AC on "Aging Aircraft " .
Have you heard anything about it ? There is nothing on the FAA website about it yet ( surprise, surprise ! ). It's supposed to be AC 23-27 . Is there any way to find out what it's about ??

Marty,
Dale beat me to it. It alows some minor things applicable to the Comanches, and I think opens some avenues to acceptable substitutions of things that are "improved" materials. Read it and see what you think, but it is not anything that is going to knock the socks off the old airplane community.

I have seen this as a draft. Has it been formally published? As I recall, it allowed a field approval to be used by another owner, with the same make and model, as approved data. That would be a big bonus right there.

A C 23-27

Kristin,

I down loaded the A C here:

http://rgl.faa.gov/REGULATORY_AND_GUIDA ... 023-27.pdf

These 18 pages alter many of the old rules.

I have read through the document. It was just finalized in May. It is clear as mud. I will have to re-read it again. However, it does seem to let us replace bearings, which might save some money on landing gear work.

One question I have, and hope to gleen on a second reading, is whether we can now use a previous field approval as approved data to make the same repair. If so, that would be huge.
