Looking for Tip Tanks

Looking for Tip Tanks

Postby EdFred » Thu Jun 18, 2009 6:11 pm

I picked up a '58 250 last month, and after a couple longer XCs (FL->MI, MI->PA, MI->AR) I realize that the 4 hours until silence from the motor isn't quite long enough.

Doesn't matter if they are new or in good used condition. If new, who are the manufacturers to look for? A google search for Comanche Tip Tanks only yields for sale results for entire aircraft, not just the tanks.

Tip Tanks

Postby Dale Vandever » Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:24 pm

J. L. Osborne is the only manufacturer of STC 15 gallon tip tanks for the Comanche. Give them a Google search.

Thanks Dale,

They evidently don't want my business, because it's been over a week since I contacted them, and they haven't got back to me on ricing and delivery. I was hoping someone else might be out there. Oh well, such is life, time to be a thorn.

Ed,
Keep after them. When you do get a response they will be helpful. It is a small family business.

I got a call back from Mary on Monday I believe. Perhaps their form email doesn't work well. I sent a client based email, and I got a call back. Now...do I spend the 6300 plus shipping + installation +, +, +...

Nose tank extensions

Postby Dale Vandever » Thu Jul 02, 2009 1:45 am

Attached is a photo of an original Brittian tank that Piper installed on a Comanche. The nose would be described as blunt compared with new ones. The next photo show the original Brittian tip tank with the Osborne fiberglass extension shown below it. The next photo is the original tank with the new nose cap attached. The photo order should be viewed 02, then 03 and then 01.

The extensions are available without light fixtures and each side is identical. Those with the lights in the nose require one fixture for the right and another for the left. The hole is just cut on opposite sides.

I don't think that the dies that stamp out the tanks have changed. The new ones just have the pointy end installed.
