LANDING GEAR CONDUITS - AGAIN

Who am I to encourage the replacement of the landing gear conduits? Well I've replaced 35 sets of these to date so you have the advantage of a flat learning curve; not dealing with a first-timer. Webco has at least a dozen sets in stock [06/04], so bite the bullet and get 'em ordered. Part of the beauty of this process is the entire retraction system gets examined and I'm good at spotting difficulties.

I am encouraging anyone who has contemplated this upgrade to take advantage of my trip to the West Coast from Florida. The primary part of this trip is helping with Kristin Winter's seminar at Petaluma on Saturday the 13th.

So far I have Cameron Airpark and Apple Valley on the schedule; room for 3 more. I am departing Naples Tuesday 06/09.

I apologize for this blatant advertising post; I hope to affect a fence-sitter to procrastinate over something else. Why do you think "gear collapses" continue; maintenance maybe? I have a vested interest in this because that's how I support myself and with your help I can continue. These conduits are Webco's product and I push them heavily; if they were my PMA I would feel guilty as a used car salesman.

I heartily support Matt's Post. When you have another person on board, have them time how long it takes your gear to go up and then again how long it takes to go down.

My Twin's is 4 to 4.5 seconds - up or down. What is your gear 'speed'?

I agree with Matt. He replaced my conduits last year even though they didn't give me any grief. Just good insurance against a catastrophe. Last fall, I purchased a wrecked Comanche that landed gear up. Although the accident wasn't caused by the conduits failing, the results of this gear up landing totaled the airplane, buckling the fuselage in several areas. What a shame. Replacing the conduits isn't cheap, but the results of not doing it can be very expensive.
