The Comanche Pilot Proficiency Program for 2009

The much anticipated CFF Comanche Pilot Proficiency Program is coming to an airport near you this year. With a planned eight, and possibly a few more, weekend seminars spaced throughout the year and throughout the country, we hope to make this quality Comanche specific training available to everyone who wishes to take part. It has been a long time since Comanche training has been available in this format from the Larry Larkin seminar. Fully updated and developed for today’s highly technical aircraft systems, the CPPP has already helped many fellow Comanche owners advance their knowledge of their aircraft, fly more efficiently, and find greater enjoyment in their aircraft through the greater understanding of their aircraft, both mechanically and operationally. Please make plans now to take advantage of this great training opportunity during one of the seminars listed below. Additionally, programs can be scheduled one on one with a CFF CPPP instructor. Come to us for one on-one training, or get a group together and set up your own training seminar!
The price for the full course is an affordable $795 per pilot. This includes both ground and flight training in your aircraft, and includes all course materials. Don’t want to or can’t fly with us? You can take part in just the ground portion of the training for $395, and that also includes all course materials. Ground training is a full day and a half of systems, operations, regulations and special emphasis topics. It includes classroom time as well as time with the landing gear simulator and a unique, hands on technical lab with a dedicated technical instructor. A courtesy technical inspection of your aircraft will also be provided by qualified individuals at your option. We will work to help make your aircraft paperwork compliant, and we will provide you with answers to those questions that you always wanted to know the answer to, but didn’t know who to ask! Our instructors have been trained to be conversant in all of the latest avionics technology, and can really help you get the most out of that new high tech panel, or panel gadget. However, if just keeping abreast of the basics is more your idea of fun, we cover the old school techniques as well!
So you want to take part in the full course? By completing the entire course successfully, you will qualify for a Flight Review, an Instrument Proficiency Check, and you may qualify for significant insurance credits (check with your insurance company for your specific options). Our objective is to move you up a rung, from whatever level you are starting from, from new pilot/new owner, to seasoned professional/long time owner. We know you will find the course, as well as the interaction with other Comanche owners and pilots in the seminar environment, to be something you will enjoy and find most rewarding. Hey gang. The time is rapidly approaching when we need to have some hard numbers for the Sacramento CPPP. Here is the information on this event which is scheduled for March 20th-22nd and will be held at the old McClellan AFB near Sacramento, CA. this is our only confirmed west coast date this year so take advantage of the opportunity. Here are some of the specifics for this course location.

Our seminar schedule is set for an extended weekend. We will be staying at the Lions Gate Hotel at McClellan Park which is about a half mile from the airport. The rates are $109 for doubles, and $99 for a queen, plus 12% taxes and a $1.10 tourist assessment. Please contact the hotel at 1-916-643-6222 or visit their web site at www.lionsgatehotel.com and refer to the booking code: COMANCHE. The cut-off date for booking rooms is February 20, 2009. All rooms are equipped with microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. The rooms will be held until 6 p.m. unless otherwise guaranteed. Individuals are to contact the hotel by the above cut-off date to guarantee their room reservation. After the 20th of February, rooms cannot be guaranteed. This price is good for Thursday through Saturday nights.

We will begin registration at 0800 on Friday, and start ground school at 0900 hrs lcl. Aircraft general, general knowledge and some aircraft systems will be covered on Friday. Dinner will be a special treat. For an additional $40 contribution to the Southwest Tribe, all inclusive dinner and drinks will be provided, as well as transportation to and from a local aircraft salvage yard for what promises to be a very interesting and informative outing. This is an ICS fly in event separate from the CPPP, but we are all invited to attend. Saturday morning, we will continue with Aircraft Systems, the hands on aircraft “lab”, and we will start flight training. There will be a morning and afternoon shift for the training, as well as for the “Lab” (lab includes working with the gear simulator, as well as with the aircraft on jacks, and also addresses owner maintenance knowledge). Carry in Lunch will be provided on Saturday to keep things moving. After noon, the flyers and lab participants will switch places. Dinner will be no host. Sunday morning will continue flight training as well as be a “clean up” day. We can finish any flying or training that was cut short for any reason. We will continue to be available at this time for any specific questions or concerns you may have. We will also do a cursory technical inspection of your aircraft and give you the results of any minor issues in a sealed envelope before you leave. We hope to be able to wrap most of the planned activities up by noon on Sunday, allowing for return flights home.

This promises to be a really fun event. I am looking forward to it. Myself and a number of others, besides of course Zack, will be available to serve as instructors to knock the rust off your flying and get you current with the BFR/ICC, or whatever. We have everything from mountain flying to coastal flying, all within a few minutes of Sacramento. There are four airports with ILS approaches within five minutes of McClellan, including McClellan itself. The hotel is on the field, sitting about half a mile from the FBO. If you have a flying companion who needs entertaining, there is old town, an outstanding rail museum, the gold country, and it is only about 45 minutes by car from Napa. It would be hard to find a better location.

The Friday night dinner will be fascinating. One of our members is in the wreckage recovery business. He picks up wrecks in Northern California and Nevada, and stores them for the NTSB and insurance companies. These all have a story, and we can learn from the story. It should make for lively conversation over dinner and perhaps an adult beverage or two. Transportation is part of the package, to and from the hotel.

I hope to see a bunch of folks there.

The time is quickly approaching for the Sacramento CPPP program. We still have availability for about 5 full program participants, and can handle as many ground only as wish to show up. Remember, unless you sign up two weeks prior to the course, we may not have enough books or materials/chairs if you just show up at the door. This promises to be a very worthwile training program, with the added benifit of being able to take advantage of the SW Tribe fly in being run concurrently. I am so looking forward to this. It is going to be a great opportunity to have a face to face exchange of information and experience with some really talented and experienced Comanche drivers. I learn so much from the folks who participate here, but I am looking forward to learning from some really great folks who don't do the online thing.

BTW, please email me the count you have and the roster so we can coordinate and we make sure that we have enough food for Friday night and enough seats on the bus for our field trip to Dennis' recovery yard.
