Part of this discussion has been about an article by F. Lee Bailey and ad for Oxford Aviation in the Jan. FLYER. Oxford is the current repository for the famous Bailey Bullet.
I asked Oxford for a quote to paint a Comanche 260B. I had a similar Comanche painted several years ago in Texas for $6500. Looked good. At the time I checked other reputable paint shops in Texas and Oklahoma. The most expensive was $12,500.
Oxford's quote for a strip and paint is $15,000. Oxford is in Maine. I'm in Houston. Fuel for the round trip would be over $1000. Maybe some other time...
