Bendix Series 200 MAg

Bendix Series 200 MAg

Postby Andrew Foster » Tue Nov 18, 2008 3:15 am

Hello All
Having a problem timing the mag to the engine and would appreciate any input. This is the senario so far
61 250, 0-540 A1D5 bendix mags
Removed mags for 500 hour overhaul.
Left mag(impusle mag) installed and timed to engine no problem.
Right mag would not time to engine. Checked ring gear for proper alignment, timing mark is right at 25 degrees before top dead center at the case half. Mag times fine in our hand, right at the red tooth mark.
When installed on the engine won't time. A&P then tried to move the timing gear one tooth either direction, Still won't time. SO, any thoughts?
He's going to have the mag checked I think by another shop, but thought i'd pass along any info if anyone has any.

Thanks so much

Andrew

You could try turning the drive gear in the engine 18o. It might shift it enough. you probably have the wrong drive on the mag. There are three different ones and the indexing is different on all of them. The correct one is a 73000. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

Charlie,
Thanks for the reply
We did try turning the drive gear 180, no luck. We have the part out and we found a part number stamped on it. I'll tell my a&p the number you gave me. In addition thier is a small o stamped on the gear which is appparently to align it properly with the gear int he accesory case.

I'll post what we find.
Curious though that we have been able to time the mag for the last eight years though.
