Brake Reversal

Brake Reversal

Postby Matt Angst » Tue May 27, 2008 12:15 am

Hi guys, I new I should have saved a copy when I looked at them last month in the archives but....Does anyone have a copy of the 337 for the brake reversal they wouldn't mind posting. I just went through the gear rig to get all the gear to move the way they are supposed to and thought I might try the brake reversal sometime this summer.
Thanks

Well summers about gone and I haven't gotten around to doing the brake mod yet. I received the 337 from Hans earlier this summer and it doesn't look too hard to do. I am curious how piper modified the rib that gets trimmed. I Thought I might form a piece of metal the same shape as the 260 type rib and attach it as a double to the original rib so went looking for a 260 to copy from. I found one at the mid east regional fly in this week end. It was a '65 260 and had the same rib as my '61 with a cut-out for the brake and a 3/4" x 3/4"x .063 aluminum angle bridging the cut out area. About the same as Hans' 337 but without the doubler on the FWD end of the rib. Does anyone know if this was how Piper originally modified the rib? Did they make a new shaped rib on later models that didn't require the angle aluminum?

Matt, I have a 59 250 that I want to do the brake reversal on, My buddy has a 67 260, we hanger the planes together. I looked at his whell well and it looks excatly like my 250. Looks Like all I need to do is reverse the brakes and Im in Bussiness, I cant really figure out what else needs to be done. Kevin
