Replacement Options - PA24 Belly Strobe

Replacement Options - PA24 Belly Strobe

Postby PhilH » Fri Sep 05, 2008 7:22 pm

I am looking for suggestions on replacing the belly strobe (currently an AeroFlash 156-0017) on our PA24-260B. I don't want to make airframe changes but would like to find a low profile, reasonably priced, reliable flash.

I found no reference on the Whelen site for replacement for the 156-0017).

Has anyone used the Whelen HRCFA ($350+) and does it easily fit? What about the Whelen SACF which is similar to HRCFA but with a smaller lens profile? Do either require special adapters to fit the AeroFlash opening?

I would like to order something next week and your experience is appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

How big is the AeroFlash opening, Phil? The Whelen self-contained strobes are 3 3/4" diameter. You might need a bigger hole and a WHL A440 mounting ring.

I've used the Whelan HRCFA as a direct replacement for a top-fuselage mounted rotating beacon. I've also installed the white, glass lens SACF on the bottom. I like the self contained units and the lower profile, glass lens on the belly. I think the glass lens stands up to the oil and exhaust better.
