At Matt Kurke's suggestion, I looked into this by a Google search and found that all hot rodder's do this to their engines, brakes, anything that wears.
It is some sort of process that heats the metal, and then subjects the part to about -320F (liquid nitrogen), and creates a very hard surface, resistant to wear.
I found a place in Oceanside. He picked them up as part of his route, and had them back in two days. Cost was $50 for both.
Do a Google on "cryo treatment" and see what you find.
