Vernier controls

Vernier controls

Postby Gary McNair » Sat Feb 01, 2014 10:21 pm

Hi all, newbie here but have been lurking quite a while. In looking at PA-24s for possible purchase, I'm seeing some w/ no Vernier controls -(I'm speaking of the throttle, prop and mixture) and others w/ a mix of conventional push/pull and Vernier.

Were Vernier controls an add or what models had them as original?

Thanks,
Gary McNair

Hi Gary,

Welcome to the Forum. Hopefully a single-knowledgeable person will pipe up. My 1970 PA-39 has the lever style. I have flown aircraft with both types of controls and found value in both approaches.

If you know the N number of the aircraft, you can hotlink to the FAA data base from the Home page and that will at least give you the year of the aircraft.

Hope to see you as an owner soon.

Gary,
My 66 260B has push/pull throttle and vernier prop and mixture controls, which Ibelieve are the original factory controls.

I have a 1960 Pa24-250, S/N 168. It did not come with vernier controls when I bought it in 1977. Over the first 5-10 years of ownership I added them with PMA parts.

Hey Jim, how did you get such a low S/N (168) on a 1960 model? My 1960 250 rolled off the line in january of '60 with S/N 1782! Ray B

Typo - S/N 1668 N6546P (Which is not a bad cribbage hand!)
