CHT Guage install

CHT Guage install

Postby Kristofer Duckett » Mon Nov 22, 2010 6:51 am

I am installing an EI CHT/EGT Guage. Which cylinder is the correct one to use? IO-540 injected.

Thanks!

Hi Kristoffer,

I am not an A&P/AI, but when I removed my single probe CHT/EGT to replace with JPI EDM-700, the probes were on the #4 cylinder. Since that engine has been overhauled a couple times, and "been around the block" a few times, I can't say that was the original, or, "stock" location.

Are you sure you want to use single probe? After doing a complete panel upgrade 5 years ago (430W,MX20,Etc,Etc.), the JPI unit I did at the same time is probably the most useful thing that I have spent upgrade dollars on. It has paid for itself in fuel alone, and the knowledge of what ALL cylinders are doing is comforting to see on the panel.

Just sayin'

Mike

Hi Kristofer,

I'm sure it is different depending upon the engine - whichever Lyc knew would run hottest - the Twin's are on #3 cylinder. don't know if it is shown in the maintenance or parts manual - if you don't know already they are on this website under the Tech tab on the Home page Hope this helps.
