Comanche strainer to filter adapter

Comanche strainer to filter adapter

Postby Trevor Gfeller » Sun Aug 14, 2016 11:02 pm

Looking to change my oil strainer to an oil filter set up. I have a case of tempest 48110 filters that I'm hoping to use.

Any recommendations on adapters, I saw one from Casper Labs on the Spruce but I don't think it took the same filters. Thoughts?

The Lycoming P/N for the oil filter adapter is 77852. It is used on newer engines, and is listed in the Lycoming parts manuals. It can be installed with an AP logbook entry. Search for the part number. Several aftermarket manufactures make it.

Also consider a quick drain adapter. Turns oil changes from a bit of an ordeal into a snap, really.

Thanks for the help, thankfully p/o has a quick drain in, found some aftermarket adapters that will work out great for me when I'm ready to switch

I agree with Jim. Use the Lycoming style. I've seen others that use hose assemblies to move the filter, but this enters more failure points. Comanches have room behind the engine for the filter assembly. The actual Lycoming part is very expensive, but others with a PMA make the equivalent part for a reasonable price.
