PA-30 Fuel Pressure Line

PA-30 Fuel Pressure Line

Postby Frank Brunot » Thu Nov 13, 2014 8:57 pm

While installing my fuel flow divider, I noticed a wire INSIDE the metal line that runs from the fuel pressure port on the divider. The wire runs in the tube all the way to the AN fitting on the bulkhead at the bottom of the oil cooler. I assume this is a method of reducing fuel flow in the event of a broken fuel line at the fuel pressure/flow gauge in the cockpit.

I checked the same line on the other engine, and found NO wire inside the tube from the divider. I haven't looked for a restrictor in an AN fitting yet.

Is this wire suppose to be in the line?

Frank,

It is my understanding that the wire is supposed to be there. I recall being at an education session where this was covered although I don't recall its function.

I'm 99% certain this was discussed in Maurice's "Tech Tip's" video. If you have access to these videos, I think the answer is there. Your suspicion on the purpose of the wire, if memory serves, sounds correct.

Thanks. I'd never seen a restriction done this way before; it was usually a restrictor in an AN fitting.

I'll be replacing all the engine gauges soon with the new EI digital instrument, so the restrictor requirement will go away.

By the way, is the Tech Tips video still available?
