PA-30 Quick Drains

Charles/Pat. The 2 drains are almost the same, they both have 1/2 inch threads so they both will fit.
The 1400 is a rotate to lock open and the 1700 is a push and then rotate to lock open.

Someone has an STC to add round access panels under the quick drain valve. My PA30 has them, probably 3 to 3 1/2" in diameter secured by 6 screws. You can change the oil without removing the cowl. Unless you have a second oil filter for the turbo, then it is difficult to get off without removing the cowl. I will be glad to post photos if needed.

IIRC the Piper dealer where we bought the Twin added these access 'panels' in the 1970s. Not sure an STC was required.

My 1968 B model has the access doors under the drain plugs as described also. I think those are factory...

My PA-30 has the access doors as well, but someone added the door on the OUTBOARD side oil pan plug instead of the inboard side on the R/H engine! Doh!! I still use it at my interum oil changes outside of annual, but I know there's a little bit of old oil that gets left in there from that mistake..

David, you post has me wondering.... Other than the round access door are the two lower engine cowls interchangeable? If so perhaps you have two L/H lower cowls?
