Oil Pressure Relief Valve on IO-320

Oil Pressure Relief Valve on IO-320

Postby Frank Brunot » Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:33 pm

One of the tangs on the cage that holds the ball in the pressure relief valve on my IO-320 (in a PA-30) has broken, causing oil pressure to go to "zero" at idle RPM.

My questions:
1) Can one purchase a new cage for the ball, and if so, where and what's the part number?

2) Since this is an "older", short body relief valve, is there a newer replacement version that will go in this engine (S/N: L-1274-55A)?

3) The cage isn't shown in the Lycoming Parts Manual that my A&P uses. Is it part of the Plug assembly?

4) Will a Lycoming 77808 ADJUSTABLE Pressure Relief Valve work in this engine.

The Pressure Relief plug I now have has the number 71714 cast on it, but Webco nor anyone else recognizes the number.

If I were you I would contact Charlie Melot at Zephyr Engines. He'll know the answer to all your questions. He advertises in the "Flyer", so you can go there to look up the phone number.
