Engine mounts

Engine mounts

Postby Duane Bolin » Mon Mar 12, 2012 9:44 pm

I have been searching for engine mounts for my PA24-180 for some time. I finally acquired a set of Lord J-7402-5 as the parts manual specifies. The service manual states the top shocks are assembled so the gold colored shock is aft and the silver colored shock is forward, and the lower mounts are installed opposite of the top shocks.
My question is that the new shocks have no color coding. Both shocks in each box have a gold color and I can’t see any difference between the two shocks in each box.
Has anyone encountered this problem?

Duane,
The color code is for the 250 only. The 180 doesnt have a "soft side"!

Duane

Where did you find the J7402-5 engine mounts for your 180. I need a set and have been unable to locate them. Aircraft Spruce said they are no longer available. Also if you don't mind me asking, how much were they?

Thanks

Aviall is the only source(from Piper). Lord eliminated their PMA so it has to go through the Piper markup. Not a good deal, but they are available.

Thanks Zach

I called Aviall and they had them in stock and actually cheaper than I expected. They are ordered and on there way.

I found the AN hardware for these mounts at Webco. I bought the bolts, washers, castellated nuts and cotter pins as stated in the parts manual, but could not use the castellated nuts and cotter pins because there was no way to install the nuts and pins due to clearance issues. I used friction nuts as was used in the previous installation.

I bought a new, fresh, current date set of Lord Mounts for my 180 last February through Jepp Direct (internet). They shipped from Aviall and the cost including shipping was less than $100 per set. I think the cost was around $95 each. I posted this information at the time. You do not have to be a Jepp customer to order from Jepp Direct. At the time Aviall was stating that they did not have stock, and it would be at least two maybe three months before they had stock. The price quoted at the time was about $185 per set, so the Jepp Direct price was very attractive. The fact that they were able to get them out of Aviall was even more impressive. Good luck.
