GAMIs on PA 30/39 Turbos

GAMIs on PA 30/39 Turbos

Postby Jay » Wed Apr 01, 2009 7:23 pm

My IO-320-C1A engines are in for overhaul. I'm considering going with GAMI injectors. Anyone here have any good or bad experiences with GAMIs on turbocharged 320s they'd like to share?

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Hi Jay,

I have them on my normally aspirated 320s. I have a difficult time quantifying the benefits because I made many changes at once ... also at overhaul. The fuel flow to all 4 cylinders in each engine are close according to JPI temps ... don't know if they would have been that way anyway or they are that way because of the GAMIs.

I spent the money for them because I wanted to buy some insurance that the money spent on overhauling the engines would be well-cared for by treating each cylinder as well as possible and I believe GAMI does that. The dollar fuel savings due to balancing would be slight in my opinion because the temp difference in 320s doesn't appear to vary as much as 6 and 8 cylinder engines since our each of our cylinders has a corner office view.

So without hard data I can't stand up and say wow, buy 'em. I can say that if i had it to do over again, I would still buy the GAMI insurance. Hope this helps.

Oh, when you take them to annual, be sure to ask the mechanic cleaning them and return the right to right engines and left to left - they are labeled by cylinder already.
