PA30 door hinges and handle

PA30 door hinges and handle

Postby Frank Brunot » Sun Jun 29, 2014 10:56 pm

I just had my interior redone, and need to make a slight adjustment of the door, since it's not locking properly.

Two questions:

The figure in the maintenance manual shows a horizontal pin in the lower part of the hinge. How do you drive this out, since the back of the hinge is against the airframe skin?

One of the hinge pins is stuck. I've tried using a 3/16" pin punch with no luck. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

What's the trick to get the spring clip through the door handle shaft and over the locking mechanism shaft? Is there a special tool? I hate to rip the new leather with a screw driver.

The horizontal pin is a small roll pin used to lock the hinge pin in place. A very fine punch is used to remove it.

But how do you drive it out? The only direction to drive it is straight toward the skin of the plane. There is no place for the pin to go and come out the back of the hinge.

That's right .. it's on the rotating part of the hinge. Thanks, Zach.

Now I feel like a complete dummy!

Frank - you are not alone - we once spent two weeks replacing parts on the power-tow and then we figured out, all we had to do was pull the handle out to its normal length and tighten the set screw ... this is why we have Clifton do annuals etc. :-)
