Horn deadline

Horn deadline

Postby Andy White » Wed Oct 16, 2013 5:55 pm

Ok this might be a seemingly stupid question but with the delay of the aussie horns getting shipped to the US, can someone tell me the date that the AD will ground my airplane. I know it is sometime in Nov, just wondering if it is early or late Nov.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

Reading the AD (http://www.comancheflyer.com/NS/files/2012-17-06.pdf) and assuming you have an old horn that has never been inspected, then you have or had 100 hours flight time from the flight time you had on the aircraft as of October 22, 2012 (when the AD was issued) before the inspection is required. Assuming you have only flown 50 hours in the past year, keep flying; conversely, assuming you flew 150 hours in the past year, then you are already overdue.

I knew the 100 hours... Have 7 more I can fly. For some reason I thought there was a 1 year deal also.

Pat have you heard any more from the aussies? I just missed getting one of the last horn and supposedly on a "priority" list to get one of the first ones of this next batch, but I can't get an update out of them. You are welcome to PM me if needed.

I am balancing the 25 hr break in of the new cylinder I had to do with the time running out on the AD. Starting to feel the pinch and just trying to find that balance until I can get the new horn.

I could have sworn we had a year to comply, but going back and re-reading the AD, I can't find any such notice, nor could my mechanic.

I expect to hear more about the availability of the Aussie horn at the Fall Board meeting coming up this Saturday (10/26/13). It is my current understanding they want to have a single distributor for the horn in the US, but I don't have any further details at the moment. Check here on Monday for info.

I'm down to 40 hours left myself and beginning to wonder if I will need to due the current horn in order to avoid the 'grounded' possibility.
