Comanche flyer and Horn AD

Comanche flyer and Horn AD

Postby Michael Rath » Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:52 am

I'm not sure who is in charge of the Comanchee flyer magazine but would it be possible to to do a very in depth step by step article on complying with the horn AD? I think as much as most of us would like to make it to a horn seminar most of us won't. I know I would like to see a step by step article with pictures on how it's done, what are the common parts that need to be replaced, what are the common problem areas, where to source parts, what they cost, etc, etc. I don't want it so that I can go DIY but it would be nice to make sure that my IA gets it done right. I would think that if this horn AD is important enough to have seminars on it is important enough to have a very in depth write in our magazine.

My guess is that ICS isn't going to put themselves in the position of potentially having some sue them claiming that there was something wrong with their procedures. The maintenance manual has the procedure spelled out. If you would be more comfortable having a shop that really knows Comanches do the work, I recommend making an appointment and going down to see Webco in Newton, KS.

I'll second Kristin's comment and add that Webco will be hosting one of the seminars at KEWK April 27. I don't know what the expected attendance is at this time, but that could be an excellent opportunity to learn how is should be done.

I searched on line and came up with two shops describing the proceedure. Curiously, each had done four planes. One found no discrepencies. The other found three of the four had to replace the horn. That says something but I'm not sure what.
