firewall stand-offs

firewall stand-offs

Postby criffus » Fri Feb 27, 2009 4:38 pm

After much pain and suffering (both in my heart and wallet!) I finally got my banged-up 250 back to Oklahoma. Where I promptly started taking it apart! ('been doing that since I was about 3 I think...)
Anyway, I'm doing a complete firewall-forward refurb, and was wondering something-
Can I rivet stand-offs to the firewall at all the points that I need to connect clamps and fasteners to? After doing the upside down contortionist thing to hold screw-heads on the various through-bolts that so many have installed before me....well... I've decided I don't like that. I know, I should ask my mechanic, but he's out of town...

Hopefully I'm being clear about what it is I'm asking. Let me know if I'm not.

Attached are a few pics of my latest trouble-making... and I will definitely start a "journal" with pics and progress notes here on the ICS forum soon.

Thanks,
Chris

After you get a new engine installed- by-all-means, remove it as soon as you get home!!! (where's my xanex????)

Nice, huh? I actually did all this so that I could put my nose-strut valve cap back on easily... ;-)

Hi Chris,

I think I would have gulped a few times before I started that although I would love to clean up my firewall and apply new insulation.

My hanger neighbor Brian bought a pristine Stearman about ten years ago. Another pilot on the field who obviously knew Brian better than I did bet me that Brian would have the engine off within 6 mos. I lost the bet by 5 days.

Good luck, Don
