Hi everyone,

Our Janitrol is running very rich. It's producing black smoke and leaving a soot streak on the belly of the aircraft. We've confirmed no air obstructions, it passes the decay test, the air pressure switch is actuating properly, etc.

We're going to try to confirm the fuel pressure to the heater next per the manual, but am looking for any other tips or pointers anyone may have before we have to pull the entire thing out and send it out.

Must be that time of year. I was just going to ask about soot/dark exhaust on the heater. It is my first experience with it. Mine had not been run for a long while, according to the log/hobbs. I used it this week and was surprised to see how dark and the amount of exhaust on the airplane. I wiped it off and then flew another leg. There was less, on that leg, but perhaps the heat wasn't on as long? I also wonder if it "cleans it self" out once it runs a few times. Worse at the start of the season?

You may find that yours clears up but I don't think that is our issue. I'm worried ours sustained some yet to be discovered damaged after that nose gear collapse we had back in the spring. It wasn't doing this until after that incident but it wasn't cold enough to use the heat so we're just now dealing with it.
