1960 Air scoop

I have a 1960 PA-24 and the airscoop on the fusealodge that feeds the vents is facing aft and gives no air . Is this standard as seems like should be facing forward to supply air. Scoop is rivited in place so just checking before I turn it around.

I wonder if someone did this for an airspeed increase? When I open these vents on my 61 250 in cruise, the plane pitches up and I lose about 2-3 knots in airspeed. Also the scoop vent on the roof for the eye ball vents is probably a little drag too. If anyone has the dorsal fin modification that has the naca vent, I'd like to know if it helped the airspeed?

Mark, It is aircraft dependent - we almost always raced with the air vents closed - it was faster for the twin and Cessnas and a Meyers 200D - actually added weight in the back for the 200D - not the twin though
