Push to Talk Switch

Push to Talk Switch

Postby Craig Peterson » Sat Jun 24, 2017 2:26 pm

Just bought a 61 PA-24-250 and it had a couple velcro PTT switches on the yokes. One sticks a bit and the other has the button broken off, but still works. Tried replacing one with 2 different switches that I had. One a Telex and the other an ASA. Neither worked. Looked at the mike plug and it looks a bit different than the newer ones. Anyone else figure out a good replacement or do I need to go to the avionics shop and have the input jacks replaced?

Here is our ptt copilot side. We then covered with leather wrap. It's a bit tricky because first u drill out for the shaft. Then you have to dado in a bit on the back side to allow the body enough room so the switch comes up high enough. If you've got basic skills not that big a deal, or any shop should be able to handle it.

Here is the pilot side
The mike jacks being different is a new one. Just the other day I tightened a loose nut on the copilot jack. Twisted the jack enough to short to ground, with a constant transmit.opps
Lesson learned, hold prongs on jack from backside while tightening nut on front side

Hope u like your 250. Had ours since 2001 and it's been a ton o fun.

Thanks, Andrew. Absolutely like my 250. Had a nice Mooney Exec for a bunch of years, then tried light sport. Was OK, but glad to be back in a nice traveling airplane...
