Avionics Upgrade to Comanche

Avionics Upgrade to Comanche

Postby Adolfo Ortiz » Thu Jun 04, 2015 2:04 am

I handed over the Comanche PA-24-250 to Advantage Avionics in Chino on Monday (6-1-15). It will be there for about two weeks for the avionics upgrade (center stack) with the following:
All Garmin
GTN750 (yes the big one)
GMA340 audio panel
GTX327 transponder (no need for the 330 as I won't be going over 18k)
GNC255A Nav/Com
GI 106A Vor's (2)

The GDL88 will come at the end of the year.

I tried to pull-off adding the Garmin 500 glass system but way out of price reach on my very limited budget,

Yes it is pricey, but it will be worth it since I will be keeping the Comanche for a very, very long time :)

Will post before and after pics after I pick it up.

Picked up the Comanche today (Friday 2-19-2015) from Advantage Avionics.

Wow! First notable difference, aside from the looks, were in how the audio system sounded so much clearer, ATIS,GD cntl, tower, ATC, no static, no noise, crystal clear! Wow!
Second of course, GPS! GTN-750, well just awesome! I can't wait to spend more time utilizing its full features.

I'll add the GDL-88 at the end of the year to bring in the traffic features (ADS-B in/out) and weather.

Thanks!

I Love it, very glad to have made the investment on both the Comanche and the upgrades!

Update June 2016:

I swapped out the GTX327 for the GTX345-ES which includes ABS-B in/out. The traffic and weather features are great with the GTN750!

I have also added the Garmin AOA indicator as an extra safety feature (this Comanche didn't have a stall warning system), some may argue that it isn't needed, but hey :)

While I was adding the updated avionics, I had them remove the old/unused rotating beacon on the fuselage, it was replaced with the LED on the tail previously.

Enjoying the Comanche!

Also just put in 345. On another Forum folks have had trouble with the AHRS, how is it for your install? Specifically trouble with horizon matching whats it aircraft and some have had trouble with turns being correct.

Very happy with the traffic features. Two warnings on last flight. Helpful.

Good choices, and you'll be happy with the upgrade.
Not having the Garmin 500 is a pity since it is a dynamic display. If, in the future, if you win the lottery, perhaps you'll include it.
One of our Twin Comanche brethren at Chino, CA, just had the Garmin 750 and Garmin 500 combination installed and it is breathtaking in capability and performance.
