bringing my 65 into the 21st century

bringing my 65 into the 21st century

well I have now owned my 65 260 for just over a year and got comfortable with how she flies and handles, which didn't take long considering how nice they handle. Last year I took care of a few nagging maintenance issues and now it is time for some updates. My plane still has the original 65 shotgun panel and very dated electronics in the radio stack. so I got with Ron Keil in lapeer and we have drawn up a plan to bring her into the 21st century within the budget I have to work with. First up we have ron and johns cutting a new panel to get me an actual 6 pack layout. then got a couple gyro instruments that just seem a bit off so having those rebuilt. then the exciting stuff, get rid of the dated audio panel and remote intercom that has loose wires running all over the cabin for a nice garmin 340 with rear jacks going in where the current rear ashtrays are. then we dump one of the radios, the loran, and the ADF for a GTN 635 with corresponding CDI. for second nav/com we will keep the KX155 with its GS CDI. I was hoping to add in the 345 transponder to give me full ADSB IN and OUT but that didn't quite fit into the budget I have to work with at the moment but it is next on the list. as long as there are no surprises along the way she should go under the knife about the middle of may.

Did similar and got 10.5 lbs of useful load back from removed excess wiring - hope you get the same.

My beautiful new panel cutout arrived today from Ron and Johns, so itching to get started but now Garmin says another 4 weeks on my GPS, blah

Can't have too many pictures of this process - still enjoy looking at the before and after wiring behind the panel when we 'upgraded'. Time to add ADS-B soon so 'upgrading' again.

I just had a Lynx 9000 with traffic installed in my 400. It's a great addition which displays on my 430, Aspen and IPad.
