Audio Panel and Auto Pilot

Audio Panel and Auto Pilot

I thought I would mention my thoughts and impressions concerning a recent avionics update to my '69 Twin Comanche. I just added an S-Tec 55X with auto trim auto pilot, and a PMA8000B audio panel. With respect to the audio panel, I have to say I was quite impressed, it has a lot of features, and seems easy to use. If you are every flying with individuals that don't want to listen to all the ATC or pilot radio clatter, they can connect their IPOD (or other musical device) in the back and listen to tunes. You can also plug the input all the way into the front, and the pilot can select how the music gets distributed. Personally, as pilot I am not interested in listening to music, however I find how the music distribution works quite well. Another feature, is the music being selected NEVER steps on a radio transmission.

With respect to the auto-pilot, this is quite nice. I look forward to flying it in IFR conditions. I flew the plane from NJ to Ocean City, and the auto did everything but the landing and take off. Want to descend at 300 f/p/m, just punch it into the vsi mode, and it nails it exactly. Once you get to your desired alt, hit the alt button and it will hold it there. It really allows you to focus on other things that may be a bit trying when you are doing everything as a pilot alone - especially in IFR. So far I haven't found any negative issues, but if I do I will post.
