Westward to Seattle

I lived in Couer d'Alene for 10 years and have flown that route many times in a 250. The I90 route is very good. Billing throught the pass at Livingston to Bozeman. Follow the valley to Missoula and then over Mullan Pass to Coeur d"Alene. From Coeur d"Alene Over Spokane to Ellensburg, Wa. Then over Snoqualmi Pass to Seattle.

Beautiful trip. The terain is not too challenging, but it is high (6000 - 9000) over the passes. IFR not recomended without oxygen and some local knowledge. Anytime from mid Julty through September should have good weather.

If you end up needing a fuel stop/overnight 4 hrs or so from Seattle, Helena, Montana has a self serve pump that always has a competitive fuel price. They also have a very comfortable self serve overnight apartment adjacent to the fuel pumps and a self serve car to run into town for dinner.

Helena is also a pretty high altitude stop, so you don't have so far to climb back to cruising altitude.

If you don't want cross country direct over the mountains, you can pretty much follow the highway Helena, Mullan Pass, Spokane, and on into Seattle.

Your message sounds like a stopover in Billings is planned. If you want to push on a bit, 7439P would be happy to give pointers on KBZN and the area. Too much to post here but lets just say that Montana starts just east of Bozeman and to the east of that is just land North Dakota wouldn't take.

I will agree Helena is a great stop, good price on fuel, then towards sandpoint, I will fly a bit north of direct (along the columbia river, instead of the I90) much more scenic, then welcome to the congested airspace around seattle, class B TFR, ect. Do check out the san juan islands, FHR, and the best fish n chips are at bremerton PWT, then the arlington fly-in jul 8-12
