180 Front Tire

180 Front Tire

Postby Warren Janzen » Mon Oct 31, 2016 9:40 pm

Need a front tire on my 180. I have a 600 x 6 6ply Michelin Aviator on it now. Looks like the fit chart shows a 4 ply. Any reason to go back to a 4 ply? Weight savings? Figured that maybe someone previous thought they could use the front on a main wheel later. Next question, Michelin Air vs Aviator. Aviator worth the extra $40.00? From what I read, the Aviator has more UV light protection. My plane is either in the hangar or tucked up nicely while flying. Your opinions appreciated.

4 ply is required by the aircraft Type Certificate Data Sheet for nose gear and the mains on a Comanche 180. There have been a few folks who have been red-tagged by the FAA for having 6-ply tires, though I think that more than a bit of poultry excrement.
