Pat Is this you???

A Twin Comanche was flown in the 1992 and 1994 French Arc en Ciel air races. It is the only US aircraft to have raced twice around the world. In the pilot-skilled races, 1992 pilot and Pioneer Hall of Fame enshrinee and 100 Aviation Hero for the First Century of Flight, Marion P. Jayne and her daughter Nancy Palozola placed second. In 1994 Jayne and her daughter, Patricia Jayne (Pat) Keefer won the FAI Gold Medal in what, so far, is the longest race in history at over 21,000 miles flown May 1-24, 1994. With FAA approval the twin carried a total of 252 gallons in 11 tanks and at maximum power went over 2,100 miles non-stop between Marrakech, Morocco and Istanbul, Turkey in 11:19 hours.

George - yes, the Pat in there is me and the Twin Comanche is the one I still fly today - inherited from Mom, the famed Marion P. Jayne. Although, if I got to pick, I'd rather have Mom.

Famed Marion Jayne indeed....and every time you fly the plane you are with her....or her with you.
Enjoy the memories and the moments at the controls as they are monumental and historical and personal to you and all of us who
watched the events unfold.

Just back from the excellent Clifton Maintenance Seminar - worth every penny.

Steen, thank you for your kind comments. Brought tears to my eyes when I first read it. Let me add that if Dad hadn't died the same year they got the Twin, I'm sure the two of them would have been doing the world races.

George - with humor - be careful what you ask for - husband Ken will tell you I'm good for 12-24 hours non-stop on either the subject of my mother or air racing. Ken is the only person to have sat through all 18 hours of video I took - including the foot shots and camera still running during lunch shots.

I would add that I can also spend that much time and longer talking about my husband, but the audience for that subject is much narrower :-)

Pat,
Familiar with your father's death, I admire the fire and enthusiasm you show on all your postings.
I would love to someday see some of the history.....and that's what it is.....if your historic flights.
More than you perhaps realize followed the historic performances you and your mom provided.
Thank you for still being part of the Comanche group.
In spite of the flight time I have I look up to you big-time!

We are fortunate to have such aviation royalty so close. I've flown 200 missions off of three Carriers and am not easily impressed. I'm awed by you and your family's accomplishments in aviation Pat.

Randy,

You are so kind. Thank you.

I confess to the occasion carrier-style landings in the twin - on land:-) I probably shouldn't mention it, because I'm sure I'll bounce it today, but lately, they've been really smooth.
... seriously, sitting here in my office, the mere thought of a single carrier landing makes my heart and respiration rate go up dramatically. First, thank you for your service and second, I'm so glad every single carrier operation was successful.

My project this week is to ship off the trophies I've donated to ICS for the 2014 convention Flagship, Best Twin, Best Single and Pilot who flew their Comanche farthest to the convention. I started re-cycling trophies I/we have won with new plaques to recognize someone else's aviation accomplishments and it has been well-received. So far, some have gone to the Air Race Classic, soon to ICS and soon to Illi-ana Air Race. If you know of some aviation competitions where it would make sense to use these trophies, please let me know.
