Stabilator Horn

I am working towards getting my stabilator horn AD complied with along with replacing the Hi-Shear Rivets. I am planning on going with a new one, for the sole reason of not taking tail apart again for 10 years. My question, is there a source for new horns and torque tubes? I would like to do this during the winter months as I have more free time.

All Piper parts originate now from Aviall (I may have the spelling wrong). Webco may have some in stock as they typically order them in bunches. Heritage Aero often does the same. So I suggest contacting one of them as Aviall typically waits until a bunch of orders are in so the parts can be batched produced at lower prices.

Your horn is probably OK. If you do want to replace it anyway, PLEASE take the time to check the old horn for cracks and report back on the result along with the total time on the airframe.

How long should my mechanic plan on taking to perform the horn inspection? It's his first inspection. Is there a video coming out? I agree with Bill. Makes sense to replace the horn rather than taking it apart in another five years. Thoughts?

Cliff at Heritage quoted approx 12 hours of labor. He said it is the same for either remove and test vs replacement. The parts he quoted me $1239. I was advised to get new horn and torque tube if I go new. So it looks to be slightly cheaper to test.

The problem I'm having is I can't find new parts, but I don't think I'd inspect the tail until parts were available anyway. I'd hate to have it torn apart then have to wait for parts.
