Generator Switch's

Is it ok to leave the Generator switch's on at all times, I did this with the Alternators switch's so I would not forget to turn them on:

I have left mine on for the past 15 years without any problem. Had been an advice from a person who flew and owned PA30 since 1960.

Hi Andreas,

The instructor who checked me out in my PA30 in 1967 said to leave the generator switches on all the time, and I have done so without problems, except for one experience. When the airplane came out of annual I started it and took off without problems. A half hour later the radios started giving problems.
I was about ready to turn around and go back to the shop when my checking found the both generator switches had been turned off by the shop. I now am more careful about checking generator output of each engine before take off, and I am particularly careful after any maintenance.

Thanks for the replys I had a 69 TC that had alternators that I left the switchs on at all times. I sold it and got a 66 TC that has generators I thought I should have done the same it looks like I was correct.

I agree with you that the switches should be left on except during runup when the output should be checked for each.
I find mine go about 800-1000 hrs. and then "suddenly" fail on runup check. I also have noted that many shops turn them off, but this too is
caught on runup check.

Thanks Steen,

I did not think about that, I am use to watching the needle on run up to see if it moves as I increase the power to 2200, I will turn them off the next time and check them one at a time.
