Alternator

Alternator

Postby Andrew Foster » Tue Oct 19, 2010 4:57 pm

Need some help please on a 61 250 with an alternator

Everything working OK. The amp meter, both the factory and EI Digital, are showing a pretty good bounce from about .5 amp to 2 amp once everything gets charged up after starting. In addition the internal instrument lights flicker as well.

Alternator has about 1000 hours on it and we're going to get it overhauled. Should we replace the voltage regulator as well. It's a zeftronics unit.

Thanks for all the input

Andrew,

You might try asking Zeftronics. I've found them helpful in the past.

Check the ground on the alternator. Many STCs require that the ground only be to the engine and not to the the airframe. This can be a poor ground due to a corroded or greasy ground. I believe the new STC requires the ground to be to the airframe, but I am not sure. My A@P and I did the correct grounding and this cured all problems.
