Is anyone aware of a backup alternator solution for the 180? I have Aspen Evolution glass as my primary flight display, with backup vacuum-driven AI. I've been thinking that I could replace the current AI with an electric one and then would have no need for the vacuum pump, giving me a free pad on the accessory case. I know that there are other aircraft that have backup alternators in this position. Any thoughts on how this might be accomplished? I have experienced one generator failure at night (I now have an alternator), and would much prefer to have a backup, as I do a lot of instrument flying.
