Janitro heater problem

The Janitrol heater in my PA-30 works well, but only after leveling off at altitude. The fan runs on the ground, but no heat, and no heat on climbout. Once leveled off, it works. What's the problem...??

Frank,
Do you have alternators or generators?
Big difference as the alternators put out sufficient power to run the ground fan ok but the generators....like mine....don"t. As to the no heat in climb I'm puzzled. The book says to climb out at 120 but 150mph gives much more airflow and the same rate of climb with the benefit of covering more ground. The additional airflow might be germain here as it allows the heater to have airflow sufficient to operate.
You might give it a try but my bet is that your ground operation blower moter is weak.

If my memory serves correctly there is a flow switch in the heater that only allows the heater to run when there is sufficient airflow for proper operation.

Perhaps this switch is sticky and there isn't sufficient airflow (pressure) to operate it until you attain cruise speed.
