PA24-250 Fuel Valve Piper #492-068 (HOOf # A73V)

Am having a problem getting the fuel valve through its annual. The mechanics of the fuel delivery is OK but something is wrong with the indexing on the shaft and it cannot be made to correctly indicate fuel level for the selected tank. (A button has to be selected otherwise the indicator reads full constantly).

The valve is Piper # 492-068, made by HOOf under their # A73V.

The part has been sent to Webco who say they cannot repair it owing to the shaft being pitted.

A few searches have proven this part is virtually unobtainable, but perhaps someone here knows different. Or has experience of dealing with problems with this part & workarounds or ANYTHING really the members could share?

I would truly appreciate it as this annual has been an ordeal I shan't soon forget and while the mechanic has been totally great I need to get it off his hands, and me back into the air soonest.

But at the moment we are both striking out in finding any salvage parts or any options. Names of any salvage places who have found the impossible for others would be good to know about.

Thanks in advance.

Try Matt Kurke at Comanchegear.com. If you google Comanche Gear you will find him. He will respond to this also, but I sense you are in a hurry.

Thanks Kristin,

I heard from my mechanic

"Webco just called and said they have been able to weld and polish the valve plate and stem and should be able to ship tomorrow."

So crisis appears to have been averted. But I will file that contact away for sure.

Thanks.
