Wheel part numbers

Wheel part numbers

Postby Frank Brunot » Tue Jun 24, 2008 9:52 pm

I currently have a PA-24-180 (owned it for about a year now) with stainless steel brake rotors. For some reason, the rotors have warped slightly, thus giving a shimmy upon braking action.

Since the rotors are riveted to the Inner Wheel Half, and the local shop doesn't have the tools to replace them, it has been decided to go back to the original brake rotors.

The wheel assembly is a Cleveland 40-5 (3070), I was quoted $600 PER WHEEL assembly for used wheels. However, I see that Aircraft Spruce sells Wheel Halves for about $200 each.

Question: does anyone know the Cleveland part number for the inner wheel half, and where I can buy a pair? I can't find anything at ACS or the Cleveland website.

Frank,
Call Webco and discuss with them. They may be able to help you with your issues, and certainly can remount the disks if you send them the wheel half with the disk attached. They may also have a solution you would be interested in for upgrading the brake system AND wheels (to the non rivit type)

Rivet on bake discs

Postby Dale Vandever » Wed Jun 25, 2008 2:28 am

Frank, no special tools are needed to remove the brake discs and rivet in the new ones.

Drill out the old rivets. Put the wheel and disc in boiling water and pry the disc away from the wheel. Put the new disc in the refrigerator, or freezer, and put the wheel half back in the boiling water.

Put the wheel half on the work bench and quickly drop the disc into the wheel assembly and tap it down to the stops. Drill holes in the disc to match the wheel assembly holes. Rivet the two together.
